How Much Would You Pay For That Cocktail?
|We’ve all seen the lists of the world’s most expensive cocktail. For the price of a car and with three day’s notice, you can consume an alcoholic beverage with the most esoteric ingredients known to man. For those folks, it’s really all about vanity and kind of misses the point if you think back to origins of the cocktail. In other words, how are we going to make this moonshine palatable?
A more interesting question is what consumers are actually willing to pay for cocktails. We keep seeing the ceiling rise in the big US cities. $10, $12, $15… Yet compared to places like Australia, where bartenders are not living off tips but an actual salary, you’ll see menus where prices sometimes double what we pay in the US.
Funny enough, no one seems to be complaining down under.
